I Rodentia

I Rodentia is a project that utilizes surveillance technology to explore public spaces. The tool for this covert observation is a wireless spy camera attached to the nose of a remote control rat created from a hacked toy car and home-made stuffed animal. The video, commissioned to visualize "Albany Rhythms" by Moravec, offers an unusual perspective of our capital city seen from an animal's point of view. Through the "cyber-rat," the high tech of digital video meets the low tech of analogue machines. Borrowing the aesthetics from early silent films such as Chaplin's "Modern Times," this movie depicts our modern time moving to the circular and sometimes frenetic rhythms in Moravec's work.
